MAMALLAPURAM




 

South of Chennai is Mamallapuram. This little town is a perfect gem of Pallava art (6 AD - 8 AD). A beautiful beach with its Casuuarina trees and fine hotels makes this an idyllic spot for a holiday. 

 

Places of interest: Cave Temples, Rathas, Arjuna's penance, Shore Temple.

PONDICHERRY

 



Further down the coast is the Union Territory of Pondicherry - once an enclave of the French. The French influence is still to be seen in the marvellous white buildings in the old section of this fascinating town.

 

Places of interest: A couple of splendid churches, a museum, the beautiful sea- front, the Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville, are some of Pondicherry's attractions.
