Mother Nature has given her choicest blessings to the this small exotic hill town.
Surrounded by forests, pine and fir trees, with snow draped Himalayas as its
background, small houses on the slopes and stone pavements, Almora is a treat
for your eyes.
Situated 1650 mtrs above the sea level, it was the capital of Kumaon during the
reign of the Chand Rajas in the 16th century. In 1790 it was taken over by the
Nepali Gorkhas and later passed into British hands in 1815.
The
attractions include the Nanda Devi temple which is hundreds of years old. It
has intricate carvings on the walls. Every year a fair is held, people from
all over the town come to participate in the fair. The best place for walks
is the Kesar Devi Temple which is almost 8 km long.
