Southern Railway : Amenities at Station and on Trains
 

CLOAKROOM

Most major stations have cloakrooms and lockers where you can leave your luggage for upto one month, on payment of prescribed charges. This passenger amenity ensures sage custody of your luggage, giving you the freedom to spend a day or two as you desire.
The process of depositing your luggage in the cloakroom has been simplified for your convenience. All you have to do is to deposit the luggage duly locked, whereupon a receipt will be given to you. This receipt, duly signed as an acknowledgement of having received your luggage, should be surrendered alongwith the prescribed charges at the time of delivery. Delivery of luggage will not be done without the surrender of your receitpt.

Please ensure that all baggage/hold-alls/travel bags are locked securely. Otherwise, these may not be accepted by the Railway Personnel.

 

Tariff for Cloakroom Services

RETIRING ROOMS AND DORMITORIES

Another passenger amenity provided at several important stations is AC and Non-AC Retiring Rooms and Dormitories. These serve as transit accommodation for passengers. Only those holding a valid ticket for an inward/outward journey are eligible to apply for the use of the Retiring Rooms and dormitory beds, at a reasonable cost.

 

How to apply for accommodation at the Retiring Rooms and Dormitories ?

Application Forms are available with the Station Managers/Matron in-charge of the Retiring Rooms/Dormitories. You will also be required to present your journey tickets alongwith the completed Application Form.

 

The allotment of Transit Accommodation

The rooms/beds will be allotted by the Station Manager/Matron based on availability. The genuineness of the passengers holding the ticket, will first be verified prior to the allotment of rooms/beds. You will also be required to pay the stipulated charges before the keys of the room are handed over, or the bed number in the dormitory is intimated to you.

 

Availability of Transit Accommodation

The vacancy positions are generally notified on a Notice Board. Otherwise the vacancy positions may be ascertained from the Station Manager/Matron.

 

Tariff Calculation based on Period of stay

  • For Dormitory/Retiring Room - 24 hours
  • AC Dormitory Beds available at Chennai Central will be allotted for 12 hrs or part only.
The charges will be collected for the full day irrespective of period of stay. In case the retiring room is occupied for more than one day, the charge from the subsequent day will be 25% more for each day. The Tariff is available with the Matron.

Please Note:

The maximum number of days allowed for stay is 2 days only. No extension beyond this will be granted.
While vacating the room, please inform the Matron and hand over the keys.
If any loss/damage of Railway property is noticed during your occupation, you will be asked to compensate the loss/damage, before vacating.

Do not cause any inconvenience to the other occupants of the Retiring Rooms and Dormitories.

 

OTHER PASSENGER AMENITES AVAILABLE AT STATIONS

Wheel Chairs and Stretchers
These are available at certain stations and can be obtained from the Station Manager. The rate payable to porters fro assistance with wheel chairs, can be obtained from the Station Manger.Stretchers are also available at select stations for the use of needy passengers.

Charges for Wheel Chairs & Stretchers

  • At all junctions with more than three platforms Rs. 15/- per porter
  • At all other stations Rs. 12/- per porter
