BOOKING OF LUGGAGE AND ACESSORIES

 

You are eligible for a Free Allowance, a Marginal Allowance and a maximum ceiling on the luggage carried in the compartment for each class of travel. You will find this explained in more detail, in the table below:

You are allowed to carry luggage alongwith with you, in your compartment, at no extra cost, if it does not exceed the free allowance, However, you should avoid carrying offensive, explosive and dangerous articles.

Prams, Umbrellas, TV sets, Laptop computers and Wheel Chairs for handicapped passengers are permitted within Free allowance and can be carried in person.

Free allowance is not admissible on articles like cycles, scooters etc. Modified Scooter and Motorised Tri-wheeler moped belonging to Orthopaedically Handicapped Persons may be booked in Brake-van, accommodation permitting, (not in compartment) at 75% concession in charges provided that it is carried by the same train in which the concerned Orthopaedically Handicapped Person is travelling, on the production of the certificate from Government Doctor.

Please approach the Luggage Booking Office at least 30 minutes prior to the departure of train in order to have your luggage weighed by the Railway authorities.

Please Note :

Children aged 5 and below 12 years will be allowed half of the above quantity to the maximum of 50 kg.

Luggage in excess of the Free Allowance indicated alongside should be booked at the Luggage Office, paid for and your tickets endorsed by cross-referencing the luggage ticket number, before commencing your journey.

Penalties for irregular carriage of luggage by passengers :

If you are found travelling with unbooked or partially booked luggage in excess of the Free Allowance space you are liable to be charged a penalty, either at stations enroute or at the destination station.

The penalty would be as follows :

Excess Carried Penalty
Luggage exceeding the Free Allowance but within Marginal Allowance Normal luggage rates for weight exceeding the Free Allowance will be collected (subject to a minimum of Rs. 30/-
Luggage exceeding Free Allowance and Marginal Allowance. Six times the luggage scale rate for weight exceeding the Free Allowance will be collected (subject to a minimum of Rs.50/-) after deducting charges, if any, paid at originating station.
If detected as holding more than one ticket to avail the Free Allowance or to carry extra luggage, you will be permitted a Free Allowance for the actual number of passengers travelled. The excess weight will be charged Six times the luggage scale rate (Subject to a minimum of Rs.50/-) Other tickets will stand cancelled.

 

Tips to carry baggage :

  • Travel light. Make sure your luggage is within the maximum weight limit stipulated.

  • Minimise inconvenience to fellow passengers by not carrying heavy and oversized baggage.

  • Convenient baggage dimension limits to be carried inside the compartment.

100 cm x 60 cm x 25 cm for all classes except AC 3 Tier and AC Chair Car. 55 cm x 45 cm x 22.5 cm for AC 3 Tier and AC Chair Car. If you are carrying baggage in excess of the above measurements or maximum weight limits, please book the same to be carried in Brake/Luggage Vans of trains.

CARRYING OF PET DOGS

You can take your pet dog along with you in AC First Class or First Class, provided you reserve either a two berth or a four berth compartment exclusively for your use, paying the luggage scale rate for 60 kg.

Passengers travelling in other classes are not permitted to carry the dog along with them. The dog can be booked and carried in the Luggage/Brake Van paying the luggage scale rate for 30 kg. Specially designed Dog Boxes are available in the Brake Van for this purpose.

The minimum luggage scale rate is Rs. 30/- per dog.

Passengers may contact the Luggage Office to book their pet dogs. Passengers detected carrying dogs unbooked will be charged six times the luggage scale rate subject to a minimum of Rs.50/-.

CLAIMS FOR GOODS AND PARCELS

Non-receipt of goods and parcels can be reported to the    NO Recipts Cell (N.R. Cell) at the Headquarters office or at Divisional Offices for tracing the goods/parcels.

For goods and parcels not received, short received or damaged, a claim has to be made to the Chief Claims Office, South Central Railway, Secunderabad –500071 for consignments booked to stations on South Central Railway.

Claims have to be made in the prescribed format.

Please enclose necessary documents alongwith your claim application.

Claims have to be preferred within six months from the date of entrustment/booking of the goods.

Consignors submitting such claims must enclose a letter of authority from the consignee as the claim is normally paid to him.

Under section 103 of the Indian Railways Act, 1989, the consignor should declare the value of the consignment and pay percentage charge on excess value in order to be eligible for a compensation equal to actual value of the consignment. Otherwise, the Claimant will only be compensated at the rate of Rs.100/- per kg. for baggage and at rate of Rs.50/- per kg for other goods.

FIRE HAZARD

You are requested not to carry any inflammable or combustible materials, when you travel. Please avoid throwing lighted matches or cigarette butts in coaches. Refrain from using stoves and sigris inside the compartments. These can cause fire hazards.

BOOKING OF RESERVED CARRIAGE/TOURIST CARS/SALLON AND SPECIAL TRAIN AT FULL TARIFF RATES

 

To facilitate group travel, the Railways provide carriage/tourist car/saloon and even special train. Application for these should be made in prescribed form and sent to the Chief Operations Manager, S. C. Railway, Headquarters Office/Secunderabad. Please include a Cash receipt/ Money Receipt of Rs.10,000/- per coach or 1,50,000/- per special train subjectto minimum of 15 (Fifteen) Coaches as security deposit.

Charges includes fare, service charge, Safety surcharge detention charge and empty haulage charge. The minimum distance is chargeable is 500 Kms. For one way and 1000 km for round trip.

Mail/Express adult fares will be levied on point to point basis for the carrying capacity of the coach or actual number of passengers travelling whichever si more. No concession is granted to students, senior citizens, freedom fighters tec.

COMPENSATION FOR TRAIN ACCIDENT OR UNTOWARD INCIDENT

Indian Railways have insured every Railway passenger against her/his death or injury in train accidents as defined under section 124 of Indian Railways Act 1989. Similarly every Rail passenger and platform ticket holder is also insured against death or injury on account of (Untoward incidents) as defined under section 124 A of the act such as death/injury on account of commission of a terrorist act, violent attack, robbery, dacoity, rioting, shootout, arson by any person in or on any train carrying passenger or in the waiting hall, cloak room, reservationor booking office on ay platform or in any other place within the precincts of a Railway station for accidental falling of any passenger from a train carrying passenger.

The dependents of dead or injured passenger or his authorised agent have to approach Railway Claim Tribunal which decides the claims. Compensation for deaths or a permanent disability in Rs.4 Lakhs. In case of injury the minimum amount is Rs.32000/- and maximum is Rs.4 Lakhs depending upon the gravity of injury.

Immediately after the accident or untoward incident has taken place, ex-gratia amounting to Rs.15,000/- to the dependents of dead passengers, Rs.5000/- to the grievously injured and Rs.500/- to the simple injured is also given to take care of immediate needs.

BAN ON SMOKING

Smoking in Railway premises, and in Trains is banned.

Section 167 of Railway Act 1989 empower the Railway administration to ban smoking in any Train or part of Train, sub section 3 provides the whosoever contravenes these provisions shall be punishable with fine of Rs.100/-.
